The Dillinger Escape Plan

I looked up The Dillinger Escape Plan recently.

A few years ago, I saw The Mars Volta perform in support of Soundgarden.  They were completely insane on stage and I sought out their albums before trying to find out more about the band.  I eventually discovered that their founding members, Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, were in a band called At The Drive-In.  My lookup of that band soon led me to see the Wikipedia pages on totally random genres of music, like shoegaze and mathcore.  Ever intrigued by the prospect of math nerds rocking the f out, I clicked on that link and found a connection to The Dillinger Escape Plan.  I had heard their name before but knew nothing about them.  Tidbits:

  • Bass player Liam Wilson and lead guitar player Ben Weinman faked lead singer Greg Puciato’s death in 2010.  I have no idea why.
  • Greg Puciato was romantically linked to porn star Jenna Haze.
  • In 2002, during a performance in the UK at the Reading Festival, Puciato took a shit live on stage in full view of his bandmates and the crowd.  He put some of it in a bag of shit and smeared some on himself.  He threw the bag of shit into the crowd, making a statement about how it is comparable to the quality of music/performers the crowd would get at the rest of the festival.  Puciato was apparently mad that his band would share a stage with Puddle of Mudd and Hoobastank.  Seems about right.  [Source 1] [Source 2]

“One of Us Is the Killer” is a great song.  That’s it for now.  Happy New Year, whoever you are!
